FAQ: Does a2mi.social participate in any relays? Can it join (relay X)?

I’ve thought about relays before, and right now I’m not interested in joining one. I’ll summarize my main reasons for this thinking:

• a2mi.social appears to already be connected to a decent amount of the fediverse via organic connections (follows/following relationships)

• I worry that joining a relay would add federated posts that seem random from the perspective of the site’s users, while organic social relationships are going to tend to join us with communities the site’s users have some connection to

• From a system administration perspective, I worry about load; right now the site is stable and relatively low maintenance, and I don’t want to add a lot of federation load while I’m skeptical of its benefit.

• Particularly after the Feb. 2024 fediverse spam incident, I worry about the potential for increased spam on the public timeline.
